A new translation of the story "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" from The Jungle Book is set to be released by the imprint "Laska-press" of the "Gorodets" publishing house. The new edition will be adorned with bold illustrations by Maria Leshchuk. Their main feature is unusual perspectives and cinematic composition, as well as the texturing of the characters and clothing of the main characters.

As with other translations by "Laska-press", "Rikki" has its own quirks and discoveries, and there will be plenty to be surprised and pondered about. Translator Maria Yamashchevskaya chose to stay closer to the original and, for example, returned the male gender to the cowardly Chuchundra, while at the same time preserving the atmosphere of colonial India of the writer’s time in the text. Together with the artist, they carefully studied the sources, worked out the details of the characters' clothing and life, and included a whole spread of curious notes at the end of the book.

The release of the new edition is planned for 2024.
